SHE WAS DESTINED TO RULE.
HE WAS DESTINED TO RUIN HER PLANS.

In a world where kingdoms rise and fall like shifting sands, Princess Layna stands on the edge of ruin—caught between her kingdom’s survival and the pull of her heart.
The desert kingdom of Alzahra is on the brink of war. As crown princess, Layna’s future has been shaped by duty, especially her responsibility to forge a strong alliance through political marriage. But everything changes when the handsome Prince Zarian arrives at court—dark, dangerous, and impossibly infuriating. A warrior shrouded in mystery, Zarian’s arrival shatters her orderly life and forces her to question her destined path.
As Layna’s fate intertwines with Zarian’s, a mysterious prophecy looms ever closer, threatening to unravel the entire Continent. The lines between lover and enemy blur, and one wrong move could cost her everything—her crown, her kingdom, and her forbidden love
Will Layna surrender to her duty—or to desire?
"The Moon's Daughter" by Leena Kazak is a captivating book that intertwines romance, political intrigue, and prophecy within a richly imagined desert kingdom.
As a first daughter, I deeply resonated with Layna’s struggles—the pressure to make your family proud, the weight of responsibility on your shoulders, and the constant tug-of-war between familial duty and following your heart.
It satiated my thirst for everything I crave in dark fantasy books: vivid & intricate world-building, nuanced characters you want to get to know, plot with so many twists & turns, love, devotion, pain, and hurt.

A garden is easy to maintain, but the heart is far more difficult to control.
A garden is easy to maintain, but the heart is far more difficult to control. Soraya should have known better than to fall in love with a man who could never be hers.
"The Spare Heir" is a standalone novella that takes place during Chapter 3 of "The Moon's Daughter." The short piece is told from Soraya's perspective, and we witness the start of her blossoming love story. "The Spare Heir" is available in "Bewitched Blooms: A Fundraiser Anthology for Zoë," a memorial anthology that brings together the imaginative works of over thirty fantasy and paranormal romance authors.
This anthology is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Zoë, a cherished friend of the author Briar Boleyn, who bravely faced Stage 4 colorectal cancer. In Zoë's honor, all proceeds will be directed to her family and to CancerCare Manitoba, supporting vital cancer research, preventive screening, and patient care initiatives, as well as to the Riverview Health Center, which provided Zoë and her family with compassionate care during her last days.
The Spare Heir was a fantastic short story with a down to earth and kind FMC at its heart that left me wanting to dive straight into to The Moon’s Daughter.
I’m SO glad we have gotten a story from Soraya’s POV. I already loved her but now I love her even more. She is so kind, loyal, protective, nurturing and also beyond strong and funny.
This was an absolutely amazing short story which gave me my first taste of Leena’s Moon and Sands world, and was a fantastic little prequel if you’re like me and haven’t started The Moon’s Daughter yet.
